How people use it

Laptop and desktop backups

Point Duplicati, Vorta, Arq or plain rsync at your box and forget about it. Restore a single file or the whole lot from anywhere.

Server and NAS off-site copies

Nightly borg create or restic backup from your servers, deduplicated and encrypted before it leaves your network. Synology and QNAP units can push to SFTP natively.

Ransomware insurance

Our nightly snapshots are read-only and kept for seven days. Even if malware wipes or encrypts what you uploaded, yesterday's copy is still there.

Storage Box questions

Which tools can I use?
SFTP and SCP with any client (FileZilla, WinSCP, Cyberduck), rsync, BorgBackup and restic over SSH. Anything that speaks SFTP works, including most NAS units, Duplicati and Vorta.
Is it encrypted?
Everything travels over SSH. Data at rest sits on a ZFS pool with checksums. If you want end-to-end encryption, borg and restic encrypt on your side before upload, and we never hold the key.
What are the snapshots?
Every night we take a read-only snapshot of your box and keep the last seven. You can browse them yourself under the .zfs/snapshot folder, so a deleted or ransomware-encrypted file is one copy away.
Can I use a password or must I use keys?
Both. Set a password in your account and add as many SSH public keys as you like. Failed logins are rate-limited automatically.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes. Move to a bigger plan from your account and the quota grows in place. Nothing is copied or lost.
Where is my data stored?
On an enterprise disk array in the UK, on the same infrastructure as our web hosting, in a separate storage server.
