A very small UK web hosting company with one price per plan

THOST is shared web hosting run by a very small team in the UK. We host PHP websites, MariaDB databases and email on servers in the UK, and we charge a flat price that does not rise at renewal.

Who we are

THOST is a UK web hosting business. We are a very small team, and we run the platform ourselves: the web servers, the database cluster, the mail servers and the DNS. There is no sales department and no call centre. When you email [email protected], the person who answers is one of the people who looks after the servers, and we reply as soon as we possibly can.

We host websites and email for UK customers: personal sites, small businesses, freelancers and agencies running sites for their clients. We do not sell or register domain names, so you keep your domain with your existing registrar and point it at us.

Why flat pricing

Much of the shared-hosting market runs on an introductory price for the first term and a much higher regular price from then on. It works commercially because a lot of customers do not check the renewal invoice. We did not want to build a business on that.

So each of our three plans has one price, and it is the same on the day you sign up and at every renewal: Starter £2.99, Business £5.99 and Pro £9.99 a month, or ten times that per year. There is no setup fee and no cancellation fee. You can pay monthly and cancel any time. We think that is the honest way to sell hosting, and it is a simpler business to run. What the platform is

THOST is conventional shared hosting built on well-understood open-source software, run on servers in the UK.

  • Three web servers. Customers are spread across three web servers running Apache with php-fpm, with PHP 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4 selectable per site and full .htaccess support.
  • A two-node MariaDB cluster. Databases run on a two-node cluster with automatic failover, separate from the web servers.
  • Separate mail and DNS servers. Email (with Roundcube webmail, rspamd spam filtering, ClamAV virus scanning and DKIM signing) and DNS (ns1 and ns2.t-host.co.uk) each run on their own servers.
  • ISPConfig control panel. You manage websites, databases, mailboxes, FTP users, PHP versions, cron jobs, backups and SSL certificates at my.t-host.co.uk.
  • Free SSL. Let's Encrypt certificates are issued and renewed automatically for every site, with an optional HTTPS redirect.
  • Backups. Every website and its databases are backed up daily and the last 3 copies kept, restorable from the panel. Whole-server backups run nightly as well.
  • FTP over TLS. File access is by FTPS (explicit TLS). Each plan includes a number of FTP accounts.
  • Statistics and logs. Each site has AWStats visitor statistics, and access logs record real visitor IP addresses.
  • Billing. Your account, invoices and support tickets live at billing.t-host.co.uk. Payment is by card through Stripe.

What we are not

We are not trying to be everything to everyone. THOST is for PHP websites, particularly WordPress, and email. We do not offer domain registration, phone or live-chat support, or anything outside the platform described above. We would rather be clear about that than promise things we cannot deliver.
